the art of clean

The Lower Mainland climate is a unique environment that can have a profound affect your wardrobe. Pollution, insects, mould, and handling can all cause damage which can be irreversible, so it’s worth the effort to take care of your garments properly.

Carousel Cleaners would be pleased to assist with your fine textile handling and storage needs by providing advice, services, and a range of products to protect your most precious garments and fabrics. We invite you to take advantage of our expertise.

Handle With Care

Careless handling is one of the greatest causes of unnecessary damage to textiles. However, it is probably the easiest to prevent. Handle with care

When handling fine textiles and garments, please do not:
Wear jewelry that might snag threads (rings, bracelets, watches or dangling necklaces for example).

Over handle your fine textiles. Wear, clean and store carefully to preserve every characteristic

Please do:
Provide solid and appropriate support when handling and storing (fold on a clean table and use appropriate hangers for your clothing items).

For fine fabrics such as vintage or heirloom items, we suggest wearing white cotton gloves.

Proper Storage

A major cause of damage to textiles is humidity and temperature. This is an issue that we face regularly. Store your textiles properly.

To protect fine garments, please do not:
Use regular paper, cardboard, wood or wood products (cedar vapors are actually ineffective and cedar oil can be volatile).

Avoid containers using adhesives such as urea-formaldehyde (which can secrete damaging acids).

Store garments long term in non-recommended plastic garment bags (no air circulation)
Use mothballs (while they do discourage larvae, they are not a repellant and are a suspected carcinogen).

Please do:
Store your textiles in polyethylene plastic or acid-free cardboard boxes.

Ensure that your garments are clean and dry before storing them in a cool, dark, dry location with good ventilation (no basements or attics, please).

Stains and Damage

Accidents happen. If damaged or stained, please bring the item in as quickly as possible or call us. Our professionals can assess the stain or damage and provide you with accurate advice and realistic options.
